Torch-Lit Halloween 5K & Fun Run in White Bear Lake, Minnesota
Scare in White Bear is a Halloween-themed nighttime fun run featuring a torch-lit 5K course and a kids fun run on the shores of White Bear Lake. This festive fall event includes Halloween decorations, a spooky photo booth, and kid-friendly trick-or-treating on the beach before the race. Open to all abilities — including walkers, strollers, and dogs — it’s one of Minnesota’s most popular Halloween running events. Costumes are encouraged, and age-group awards add a fun competitive edge. A perfect way to celebrate Halloween week in the Twin Cities.

Women's shirts are fitted and run small; men's are generously sized. Registrations 2 weeks or less from event will receive shirt in the mail 3-4 weeks after race and are not guaranteed requested size; if the requested size is unavailable, the next available size most closely matching the requested size will be substituted.

Professional photographer will be on site for every race at no additional cost to the participants. Our photographer will make every effort to capture shots of each athlete, but we cannot guarantee that every athlete will be photographed.

Your race packet will include all the materials you need for your race: race bib, timing chip, and some fun items like glow necklaces/bracelets and your event shirt (if you selected the shirt option) and special offers. Those registered will receive an email on the Monday evening prior to the race with all the details, any course updates, and an age group breakdown by race category.

Top overall male and female athletes receive Halloween-themed award

Top 3 male and female athletes in each age group (19 and Under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+ with sufficient participation. 10 year age groups with a small field.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place age group winners will receive an age group award ribbon to attach to their finisher medal. Overall male and female winners are not eligible for age group awards (no double dipping).**

Fun Run | finisher medals + Halloween-themed goodie bags (no place award). Fun run participants can also participate in the trick or treating stations on the beach for more treats.
